Designer Layar in the heart of Seminyak

Designer Layar in the heart of Seminyak

The Layar, which literally means “sails” in Indonesian, is an elegant estate in Bali. The Layar has a total of 23 villas, each of which has its own garden, pool and Jacuzzi. The swimming pools are stunning with finishing touches that you would not expect to see on typical pools in other villas and estates.

Cutting-edge contemporary architecture and ultra-chic interiors characterise the 23 Seminyak villas, offering stunning living spaces sculpted by the planes of the architects’ signature sloping roofs. Each individual villa is set within a private landscaped garden with large swimming pool, and from one to four spacious bedroom villas designed for privacy.

With its cool design, hot location in Seminyak, and five-star service provided by an 80-strong staff, The Layar is designed for those with strong aesthetic principles seeking original experiences.

The Layar Accommodation

The Layar is mostly made from natural materials like the ironwood shingles. It has sloping roofs that extend from the ground level. In terms of the interior areas, the The Layar is consistent with its Balinese architecture due to the open living areas with wood and marble flooring, creating a nice contrast with the estate’s angular roofs. The estate also features high ceilings.

One Bedroom Villa
Honeymooners and couples will love the design of this large, light-filled bedroom with its stylish seating area, window onto the courtyard and sliding doors to the pool deck. There’s no scrimping on space in the garden bathroom either – an elegant expanse of Palimanan stone with foliage- fringed shower, elongated counter with twin basis, and – in the adjacent white-pebbled courtyard – a decadently statuesque stone bathtub.

Two Bedroom Villas
Accommodation is spread across multiple levels under angled, overlapping roofs in each of the seven spacious two-bedroom villas at The Layar. The open living and dining space sweeps from the edge of the pool across to the large, partly recessed kitchen and, via open-tread stairs, up to the mezzanine media room. Oriented for quiet seclusion, the master and guest bedroom suites are on separate sides of this vast living area, their ensuite bathrooms facing small private gardens.

Three Bedroom Villas
The 11 three-bedroom Layar villas all feature striking changes of floor level to create interest and define spaces. The huge open living and dining room fans out from a raised platform alongside the kitchen, widening to the garden and pool area at the front. Secluded on separate sides of this vast living area, the three bedroom suites each enjoy complete privacy and outdoor space in the form of a deck, terrace or bathroom garden. There are 3 villas with indoor TV rooms. Between villa and garden is a large swimming pool with sun deck and, in most villas, a jacuzzi.

Four Bedroom Villa
At The Layar’s one four-bedroom villa, stone slabs across a lily pond lead into an open-plan living room that flows around contoured and angled walls towards the garden. A few steps up is a mezzanine media room where a glazed wall looks down over the living area; tucked below is a guest bedroom. At one end of the living space is a raised dining area, beyond which is a breakfast bar and the fitted kitchen. At the opposite end is a sitting area open to the garden. A corridor leads to a guest cloakroom and second guest bedroom, while, discreetly tucked behind another feature wall is a third guestroom with doors to the garden. Across the lawn is a large swimming pool with a separate jacuzzi at one end and a spa with massage room and shower at the other. Beyond the Bengkirai-wood pool deck, and very privately screened behind another curved wall, is the master bedroom suite.

The indoor living area inside the The Layar is cozy. From inside, guests can enjoy the view of the sparkling pool. This leads to fluid transitioning from the indoor ambience to an outdoor feel. However, the indoor and outdoor areas blend together due the open architecture as natural air and light freely permeate the interiors of the estate. There are stone pathways and Indian-stone covered walls. There are also areas that are covered with acid washed unpolished marble surfaces.

Privacy is key, so each of the villas inside the The Layar estate is built with its own garden and own right of entry to the pool and deck. The villas have spacious bathrooms fitted with their own bathtubs. Outside are showers that are also surrounded by lush tropical gardens. The outdoor showers are the perfect place to bathe if you want to breathe the natural smell of this tropical paradise.

All the pieces of furniture inside The Layar are custom-built. Some of the materials used in creating these pieces are teakwood, marble, palimanan stone, Indian stone, rustic cotton and terrazzo. The combinations of these materials make the place attractive and decorative, yet practical and functional. Perhaps, this is the reason why The Layar has this organic ambience that other villas cannot imitate. The designs are timeless yet very relaxed.

Other important amenities can be found in the bedrooms and kitchen. Each bedroom is equipped with an LCD television with an entertainment system, other than the centralized entertainment system. LCD flat televisions and Bose surround sound systems are also strategically placed inside the estate. There are ceiling speakers to maximize the sound and minimize noise.

The Layar Setting

The Layar is aptly located in one of the most modern parts of Bali – Seminyak. The Layar, which offers maximum tranquility, exclusivity and security, is just 35 minutes away from Ngurah Rai International Airport.

There are dozens of spas, boutiques, bars and restaurants just a few minutes away from The Layar. Also, volcanoes, traditional villages and rice paddies that can be completely explored are just a short driving distance away. Other places to visit are the golf course and the stunning beaches.

You could eat out at a different restaurant in Seminyak every night – for months – and still not run out of options. Jalan Laksmana (also known as Jalan Oberoi and Jalan Kayu Aya) is Bali’s fashionable ‘Eat Street’, offering plenty of high-end restaurants including Sarong and Nutmegs at Hu’u Bar and is walking distance from The Layar.
